You need a brochure to promote your business. But the folding options are confusing, and you're afraid your final design will look unprofessional with panels that are out of order.

A three-fold brochure1 is a single sheet of paper folded twice to create six panels for information. Plan your design carefully, assigning a specific purpose to each panel to guide your reader through the content effectively.

You see brochures everywhere, but when you try to design one, the terms "tri-fold" and "z-fold" just add to the confusion. Choosing the wrong fold can ruin the flow of your information.

A 3-fold brochure is a single sheet folded twice into three sections. The most common type is the C-fold3 or tri-fold, where the paper is folded inward like a letter.

How do you create a 3 fold pamphlet?

You have all your text and images ready. But arranging them onto six different panels feels like a puzzle, and you're not sure where each piece of information is supposed to go.

To create a 3-fold pamphlet, you need to map your content to the six panels in a logical order, then hand it off to a designer to create a professional, print-ready file7.

Creating a successful brochure is a two-part process: content strategy8 and professional design. The client provides the vision, and the designer provides the technical execution. To produce a manual or brochure, it is generally composed of pictures and text. It should be handed over to a typesetting designer9 to lay out the file!.

Here is a simple structure we recommend to clients for a standard C-fold3 brochure:

  • Panel 1 (Front Cover): Your company logo, a powerful headline, and a compelling image. This is your hook.
  • Panel 2 (Inner Flap): An introduction or a "what we do" section. This is the first thing people see when they open it.
  • Panels 3, 4, & 5 (The Inside Spread): This is your main space. Use it to detail your products, services, benefits, and features. Use headings, bullet points, and images to break up the text.
  • Panel 6 (Back Cover): Your contact information, address, website, and social media links. This is your call to action.

Once you have a rough idea of what goes where, a professional designer will take your text and images and create a balanced, visually appealing layout using the right software.


Is there a 4 fold brochure?

A three-fold brochure1 doesn't feel like enough space for your project. You have more information, but you don't know if other folded options exist that are still compact and professional.

Yes, 4-fold brochures10 are widely used and offer eight panels of space. Common styles include the accordion fold11, the double parallel fold12, and the creative double gate-fold13.

When a project has a lot of detail, like a restaurant menu, a product list, or a program for an event, a 4-fold brochure is a fantastic choice. It gives you extra real estate without becoming a full booklet. It’s still very portable and cost-effective to produce. From my experience in printing, these are the most popular 4-fold styles.

  • Accordion Fold: This is just like a Z-fold but with one extra fold. It's simple and great for linear information, like a step-by-step process or a timeline. All eight panels are the same size.
  • Double Parallel Fold: The paper is folded in half, and then folded in half again in the same direction. This creates a slimmer final profile, which can be useful for display racks.
  • Double Gate-Fold: This is a very impressive style. Two outer panels fold inward to meet in the middle, like a gate. The whole piece is then folded in half again. It creates a dramatic "opening" experience and is excellent for high-end marketing materials where you want to make a big impact.

How do you print a 3 fold brochure in Word?

You need a simple brochure fast and only have Microsoft Word. But setting up columns and margins for printing is tricky, and you're worried it will print with misaligned text and images.

You can make a basic 3-fold brochure in Word by using a template or by setting the page orientation to landscape and using the "Three Columns" layout feature.

Many people start their brochure ideas in Word, and it can be a useful tool for drafting your text and layout. If you need to print a few copies for an internal meeting, it can get the job done. To do it manually, you go to the "Layout" tab, change the "Orientation" to "Landscape," and then select "Columns" and choose "Three." You can then add your text and images into these columns.

However, I must be honest here. For a professional print job that will represent your brand, Microsoft Word is not the right tool. It has several major limitations. It is very difficult to add "bleed," which is the extra image area needed for edge-to-edge printing. It also doesn't handle high-resolution images and color profiles as well as professional design software. This can result in a final printed product that looks blurry or has incorrect colors. For your final marketing piece, it is always better to use a tool like Adobe InDesign or Canva and export a print-ready PDF file for your manufacturer.
